Working with restaurant founders Chris Sullivan, Terry Ryan, Nancy Schneid, and Alex Sullivan, Alfonso Architects helped design and construct the Carmel Café and Wine Bar. Located in the Parkland Estates neighborhood of Tampa, the $2M restaurant measures out to about 4,000 square feet. Carmel Café and Wine Bar also contains a unique, separate seating space that seats up to 16 guests amongst two long tables positioned in front of the restaurant’s domestic and international wine collection. Founding Principal Alberto Alfonso described it as utilizing a “color palette that would reflect the menu concept of Mediterranean cuisine, which is broadly interpreted here and applied with modern twists.” The restaurant also features an original 30-foot high wall mural painted by the architect himself.

About api(+)

Founded in 1990, ArchitecturePlus International or api(+) is an award-winning multidisciplinary design firm led by its founding principal Juan Romero, AIA, NCARB. It has used its home in Tampa to focus on developing architecture for food retail, specialty retail, restaurants, and retail centers for a diverse set of national and international clients. Some of these nearby restaurants include Bartaco in Hyde Park Village and Grillsmith in Clearwater. api(+) has worked on numerous restaurants across the Tampa Bay area. Just some of those include the 9,700-square-foot Del Frisco Grille in Metwest, Tampa. The steakhouse serves around 450 guests, and another 160 on its rooftop deck with retractable roof. With the Metwest commercial area growing, 60k to 70k office workers nearby are looking for restaurants to go to, but for lunch and to wine and dine clients. api(+) designed Del Frisco Grille with that in mind. The architecture firm has also designed the new prototype of Earl of Sandwich restaurants and have rolled it out across the Tampa Bay area and nationwide. Pete area. The restaurants a menu of sandwiches, wraps, salads and desserts. They’ve built branches in downtown Tampa, Northwest Tampa, Edgemoor in St. Pete, and another in Bayport West.

About BECK

Although the Beck Group started in 1912, it has been in Tampa since as far back as 1961. Headquartered in Tampa Heights, it has worked to revitalize the neighborhood and city, with the company employees having volunteered for thousands of hours and local nonprofit charities. In 2015, the company won five Excellence in Construction Awards from the Associated Builders and Contractors Florida Gulf Chapter. Joe Harrington is a principal architect for the Tampa office. He relocated to Tampa in 2007, where he led design on award-winning projects, including USF CAMLS, Le Meridien Tampa, and Ulele projects. Ulele is considered one of the best restaurants in Tampa and is crown jewel of the Tampa Beck Group’s portfolio. The 8,800-square-foot Native American restaurant sits overlooking the Hillsborough River. The restaurant includes an outdoor beer garden and its own brewhouse, with as a natural spring that empties into the river. Beck has also installed a bronze statue of Ulele, the mythic Native American figure who is the restaurant’s namesake. The restaurant was created by Beck transforming an abandoned, turn-of-the-century water works building and water pumping station into one of USA Today’s Top 10 Best Places to Eat in Tampa. Beck worked diligently to renovate the space with both functional and aesthetic components, working to preserve the historic character and exterior red brick façade of the water works building.

BDG has also worked on creating upscale culinary experiences. One of these is Rococo Steak in downtown St. Petersburg, near the famous Dali Museum. Refurbished from a 1920s mansion, the restaurant caters to a hip crowd for food and drinks. The restaurant and bar and seating area measures in at around 8,000 square feet. BDG worked to create a space that lived up to its name, designing it after the “Rococo” architectural style.

They’ve also worked on Mellow Mushroom in nearby Lakeland, Florida. The 7,300-square-foot restaurant built on a 1.3 acre outparcel was a project by C&P for House of Leonard Restaurants. The restaurant is a fun, quirky, and funky pizzeria that features unique artwork all over, and a menu of craft beer, calzones, and creative, stone-baked pizzas.

In 2013, the Shephard’s Beach Resort in Clearwater Florida turned to Design Style Architecture to help them build their Ocean Flame Restaurant. The restaurant features large see-through ceiling panels illuminated with an array of color-changing LED lights and glowing glass “waves” that help form the inside of the restaurant. The glass waves changes colors as you move throughout the restaurant, illuminating its delicious menu of sushi and raw bar items. Also featured at the Shephard’s Beach Resort is The Salt Bar. With a more industrial but warm design approach, The Salt Bar creates a vibrant and energetic mood. DSA used materials like steel and polished concrete to create an energetic, fun place for a cocktail or a glass of wine while watching the beautiful ocean views.

About Elevation Architecture

Not far from Ballast Point Bay, off the shore of Southern Tampa, are the offices of Elevation Architecture. The firm was started in 2009 by award-winning architect Dennis Carr but he has been in the Tampa area since 1992. A much-feted local architect, Carr has been honored with the highest design award achievable in the Tampa Bay Chapter of the AIA: the H. Dean Rowe Award for Design Excellence. Bern’s Steakhouse in the Hyde Park neighborhood is one of the most famous and highly rated restaurants in Tampa, having been around since the 1950s. Looking to branch out, the owners looked to open a new restaurant to pair with Bern’s that would offer something different to a different clientele base. Working in Tampa’s SoHo district, Elevation Architecture worked together with the team from Bern’s Steakhouse to create Haven Wine Bar. Haven Wine Bar offers its clientele unique entrees, crafted cocktails, and a hallowed wine selection. The architects worked to create a restaurant that is “warm and comfortable, outfitted in a variety of natural materials reflecting the authenticity of the dining concept.” Haven Wine Bar’s dining area measures in around 2,900 square feet, along with a the first-class kitchen of approximately 1,900 square feet.

HOK, formerly Hellmuth, Obata + Kassabaum, is a giant of the commercial architecture world. The firm focuses on the Tampa Bay area and has truly left its mark on the city. Its Tampa office has been part of HOK’s network since 1984. Since then, it has been feted as Firm of the Year by the IIDA’s South Florida Chapter and named “Best Large Company to Work for in Florida” by Florida Trend Magazine. Located in Downtown St. Petersburg, just a few minutes away from The Museum of Fine Arts, are the offices of Mesh Architecture. The firm is composed of an innovative design team of over 50 staff members, including architects, designers, and craftspeople; together they are creating commercial design and construction projects that reflect the innovation and skill of the art housed in the museum nearby. Principal architect Tim Clemmons has won a series of awards, including a 2009 Tampa Bay AIA Merit Award, two 2008 Tampa Bay AIA Honor Awards, a 2004 Tampa Bay AIA President’s Award, and a 2001 Tampa Bay AIA Merit Award for his work at the St. Petersburg Arts Center. Winning a 2009 Tampa Bay AIA Merit Award, Z Grille in St. Petersburg is an example of the incredible work done by MESH Architecture. Found on the first floor of Signature Place in St. Pete’s Downtown, the 2,400 square-foot, 100-seat restaurant has found incredible success. Catering to the owner and chef’s California roots, the architects worked to integrate a skateboarding decor and theme into the restaurant, including a bamboo structure designed to recall a half pipe. Z Grille’s open kitchen is framed under a “proscenium arch,” while the countertops use a unique cast resin, colored to evoke vintage skateboard wheels, and “grind rail” foot rests. MESH has also worked on designing all of the new locations for the new Tampa-based chain of Burrito Boarder. After the success of their first “Burg-born” restaurant, located at 17 3rd Street North in downtown Saint Petersburg, their newest collaboration with Burrito Boarder is in Carrollwood in Northern Tampa. Measuring out to 1,800 square feet, this Burrito Boarder offers delicious Tex-Mex with a bright and colorful decor, highlighted by its unique, concrete “wave-textured” floor.

Carlos Molnar is the managing principal and co-founder at Sol Design Studio in Tampa. He has worked throughout America’s Southeast, Northeast, and in Puerto Rico. When the famous Yeoman’s Road Pub in Davis Island decided to move to Downtown Tampa, Sol Design Studio worked to create an authentic English Pub in the middle of Tampa’s CBD, or Central Business District. The new location was renamed “Yeoman’s Cask and Lion” and features a classically British decor. The exterior utilizes a unique bright blue and astroturf, while the inside of the pub includes a 4,800-square-foot wooden, brick, and polished-stone designed dining area. Covering the walls of the Cask and Lion is artwork by local artist Justin Peterson, featuring large pop illustrations of David Bowie as Ziggy Stardust, Queen Elizabeth, Winston Churchill, and The Rolling Stones’ seemingly immortal Keith Richards. Yeoman’s Cask & Lion offers a capacity of around 175 customers, a full bar, and a 1,000-square-foot patio. It even features two (wooden) Queen’s Guards keeping watch over the entrance. The recently opened Tiki Docks on the Alaphia River is another example of Sol Design Studio’s design work to create a fun casual riverside restaurant. Carefully nested over 39 acres of natural preserve in Oldsmar, Florida is the headquarters for The Nielsen Company. And the firm had the privilege of not only working with them but also receiving yet another distinction from the AIA for the project. The company needed to consolidate a number of disjointed satellite offices into one streamlined commercial building. The compound has over five buildings, each with its unique demands. The largest buildings include Building “A,” which holds 138,000 square feet of offices spread over four floors. Building “B” is meant to evoke a giant computer punch card, which is apropos, as it contains Nielsen’s technical facility. The building is also designed to protect against a category 5 hurricane. It is over 268,000 square feet, four stories tall, and over 700 feet long.

Ybor Square was one of the many historic cigar factories in Ybor City. With its red brick facade and bright neon sign, it is an indelible part of the history of St. Petersburg. CDP helped turn the landmark into a multi-story building of premium office space and commercial real estate. For their work redeveloping a local landmark, CDP was awarded the 2002 winner of the Jan Abell Historic Preservation/Restoration Award, presented by the Hillsborough County Planning Commission’s Design Awards for Outstanding Contributions. In the Double Deuces district of St. Petersburg, the The Manhattan Casino was originally built in 1925. Mesh worked to redevelop the 5,520-square-foot venue into a modern commercial space, while holding onto the history of the location.

Designed as a “gateway” to Tampa Heights, the converted TECO trolley car warehouse is being converted into a 68k-square-foot multipurpose commercial destination. What was originally a dilapidated Armature Works building is being transmuted into development for Tampa’s next generations. The Oxford Exchange is another crowning achievement by Smith Dalia for renovating Tampa. Originally a horse stable for the Tampa Bay Hotel in the 19th century, it’s become a hub for customers to shop, socialize, eat, and utilize community workspaces and small offices. It has won accreditation from AIA Tampa Bay and the neighborhood for reinventing a piece from the City of Tampa’s past into an inventive and unique destination.

The 3,500-square-foot home features three bedrooms, and two-and-a-half bathrooms on a 50 x 115 lot. The project was featured on dwell.com. It features many unique design elements, utilizing modern and clean lines that maximize the space for best functionality. Structurally, all areas of the home converge into the core of the house with an open space for social functions, while related to the exterior through a variety of windows and openings. It features a metal staircase-tower and the 12-foot panorama window in the kitchen. The loft-style ground floor includes a living room, dining room, kitchen, and powder room. The second-floor access features the master bedroom, two guest bedrooms, and open office. A tandem vehicle corridor and oversized two-car garage are accessed via tumbled block driveway.

Wannemacher Jensen Architects provided design-build work for the Saint Paul’s Early Learning Center in Clearwater, Florida. Found at 1600 St Paul’s Drive, the Early Childhood Center project is a two-phase design and build project that features an entire interior renovation of the existing classroom building, along with the construction of a completely new adjacent playground. There is a classroom that is a fire station, a library, a movie theatre, train station, library, and a candy store, while the director’s office is represented by a city hall store front. Each classroom’s facade was custom-built and is completely functional, with interactive features. Extensive structural work was required to remove load-bearing concrete walls that originally sat in the middle of the new “Main Street.” Structural beams were cleverly incorporated into the classrooms’ façades, allowing for the open winding concept.

Bayfair also integrated a modern kitchen with contemporary wall appliances to maximize space, and a custom grand stairway. One of their many residential works, Haas Modern’s “South Tampa Residence” is an example of the kind of homes that the agency can design and build. The 4,300-square-foot home was finished in 2008 and includes four bedrooms, a guest suite with a separate entrance, a private gym, a laundry, and a two-car garage. The exterior courtyard serves as the organizing element into which all spaces lead. Allusions to an exterior courtyard are reinforced by the large windows and glass doors on the rear facade. The large kitchen and courtyard spaces blend together through three arches, allowing an informal dining and gathering space for the client’s many social events and parties. The firm worked with the client to include an open floor plan perfect for entertaining, a private home office, a fully-integrated theater room, a custom kitchen with a butler’s pantry, bath vanities, a full swimming pool, and an outdoor kitchen. The custom-built foyer integrates stone trims and stone columns, and the floating stairway was built out of wrought iron railings. Another project was a custom home on Davis Island. The Fechtel Company was the design-build architect of record for the “Villa Serena” project. The 6,143-square-foot, custom-built home was built in the StillWater development in Lutz, Florida. The firm worked to design a home with inspiration from Mediterranean-revival and Moorish themes, the historic Jacobean houses in England, and the Pinewood Estate on the grounds of the Bok Tower gardens in Lake Wales. The newly designed home evokes a grand 1920s Florida house. Features include 13-inch walls of Venetian plaster, Turkish limestone floors, and a library bookshelf that opens to reveal a hidden staircase. The finished flooring is designed to be well above the 100-year flood level. Radon vents were built into the home’s foundation, and Icynene insulation controls the climate and dampness, and ultimately mold. Another design-build project by the firm is “The Renaissance House.” The 2.5-acre lot was the home for this “mansion” with vaulted ceilings, a curving staircase, balconies, and views stretching across the pool to the lake beyond. There are stone and wood, antiqued finishes, copper downspouts, and ornamental ironwork inside and out.

One of these examples includes a home they worked on in 2016, where they were the lead design and construction firm for a new residency at 5137 West San Jose Street in Tampa. With beautiful views overlooking Tampa Bay, the home in the Sunset Park area contains six bedrooms and seven baths over 6,468 square feet on a .41-acre lot. Valued at over $3M, Soleil Design helped the owners design and build their new home that visually reflected and embraced the visual language of Tampa Bay. ARC3 worked to design and build the luxury home complex located at 2801 Bayshore Boulevard in Tampa. Nicknamed “Over Bayshore,” it offers seven modern contemporary townhouses. Each home was designed and constructed with a private rooftop terrace, hot tub, and outdoor kitchen. Each building offers three bedrooms, three-and-a-half baths, a two-car garage, and square footage varying from 3,100 square to 3,400. Implementing all modern-day necessities and luxuries, ARC3 installed concrete block construction with super-insulated core, exterior walls designed with premium insulation for sound and energy efficiency, and 10-foot ceilings on the main living level, with Hurricane Impact windows and doors throughout. Each home features a dramatic 30-foot rotunda ceilings at the entry level foyer, four-level elevator with roof terrace deck access, new-era that offers the the highest level of “Smart Home” technology, including security, lights, shades, blazing speed wi-fi everywhere, and multimedia.

Matta Architecture was founded and led by Registered Architect and General Contractor Hani F. Matta. The firm has worked out of the Tierra Verde neighborhood of Tampa since 1983. Before starting Matta Architecture, Hani was an architect at Koly International, LLC, as well as a General Contractor. Hani has almost 40 years of experience in architecture and general contracting. Apartments at La Bella Vita are currently between $1M and $2.5M. Each apartment offers three bedrooms, three-and-a-half baths, and 3,000 square feet and balcony space. Over the past few years, Halflants + Pichette has completed design-build residential projects throughout the Gulf Coast, including six American Institute of Architects award-winning projects. Some of these include the Bayshore Design Build, a house located on the Tampa Bay shores. Unique design elements include a roof that extends 30 feet beyond the conditioned enclosure. The roof is held on one side by a pair of exposed concrete columns aligned with the existing dock. The uniquely constructed and designed overhanging plane folds down to become a wing wall, creating a unique way to block a power plant from the residents’ views. The concrete columns, the roof, and the wing wall all taper towards the desired view. Another project from Halflants + Pichette is the Phillippi Creek Design Build in Sarasota. The home sits on the banks of the water and is designed to accommodate a uniquely shaped triangular lot. The expansive design and construction took full advantage of Florida’s climate and natural beauty. The living room, bedroom, and detached garage together form a private courtyard. The living room runs along the creek and opens to long, beautiful views of Sarasota’s Phillippi Creek.

Built in 2015 by Bucklew Design, this unique home in the Sunset Park neighborhood of Northern Tampa overlooks the beautiful waters of Old Tampa Bay, with views of Saint Petersburg’s skyline in the near distance. One of the most expensive homes sold in 2015, to Edgar D. Ramirez, an anesthesiologist, and his wife, Jennifer, purchased it for $3.5M. As designed by Keith Bucklew, the 6,136-square-foot home includes five bedrooms and seven baths. Although evocative of traditional Cuban and Havana architecture, the home features a long list of modern amenities. The base floor includes a living and dining room, a butler’s pantry with two wine coolers, a furnished kitchen with two islands, a separate breakfast room, and private guest suite, all oriented to enjoy the beautiful water views. The second floor holds the master bedroom, which includes a balcony and a master bath made of Carrara marble. The second floor also includes three more bedrooms and a game room with a full wet bar. Outside the home, besides the view itself, is an outdoor kitchen, a saltwater pool, and patio with a fire pit. Other amenities include a second-floor laundry room, a three-car garage, and professionally landscaped grounds.

About Styles Architecture

Founded in 1998, Design Styles Architecture is a full-service architecture and interior design firm specializing in residential, commercial, and educational projects, and restaurants. Design Style Architecture (or DSA) is led by Andy Dohmen. One of DSA’s projects include the “Grasmere Drive Residence” in Land O’Lakes. The single-family project was in need of a remodel. Design Styles Architecture also were the residential architects of record for the “Carolina Circle” single-family home in St. Petersburg. Designed and built in 2014 by Devonshire Custom Homes, the home on Davis Island covers 5,580 square feet and includes five bedrooms and four full bathrooms. The home was designed in the West Indies Style and include an open floor, an expansive dining area, wood flooring, a lath powder room, a movie theater with distributed audio, and a three-car garage. One of the priciest homes in the area, the estate on Hillsborough Bay was purchased in 2016 by Kent Hughes for $5.4M dollars. Hughes is managing director of the Quartexx/MFive Sports agency, which represents many players in the National Hockey League. Hughes’ clients includes beloved former Tampa Bay Lightning captain, and potential Hall of Fame player, Vincent “Vinny” Lecavalier.

Halflants + Pichette were the architects of record for the residential design project entitled the “Indian Beach Residence” in Sarasota, Florida. The project was awarded the 2009 SRQ Home of the Year Platinum Award. The house sits on a grade with commanding views of the bay. The firm designed the residency so the western elevation of the home features large expanses of glass that exploits the bay views, while the eastern elevation maintains a more opaque private front. Large terraces were created on the west, where the indoor rooms effortlessly flow into large outdoor living spaces in the entire front yard. Another project was the “Guberman-Kennedy Residence” in Venice, Florida. The 4,600-square-foot home was designed to create a modern interior while providing an exterior that would match the aesthetics of other, older Florida Beach cottages. The firm designed to maximize views of the water both to the north and to the west, while adhering to strict FEMA regulations at the ground level. The three-story family home includes a porch area to provide a calming and soothing environment for relaxation while taking in the beauty of Florida’s west coast. Another residential project was the “Siesta Key Residence” in Sarasota, Florida. Klar & Klar Architects was the architect of record on the 6,400-square-foot lakefront residence located at 3771 Mullenhurst Drive. The private residence, which evokes the architecture of I.M. Pei, has unique roofing and dynamic angular patios. Those patios offer an incredible view of the Lake Tarpon of Pinellas County, a freshwater lake only just 10 miles from the salty seawater surrounding Tampa. The home was built by K&K over a half-acre lot, with a beautifully maintained lawn space that includes local botany and large palm trees. The home features seven bedrooms, six full bathrooms and one half bathroom. Klar & Klar Architects worked to install all the traditional and modern details: a fireplace, but also central air, and a controlled internal heating system. Outside, it also includes a large swimming pool that reflects the unique geometric shapes of the house itself. In an extremely popular residential area, the home is now valued at almost $2M.

Established in 2012, Traction Architecture is led by Jody Beck, a former adjunct professor at the University of South Florida, where she has taught courses on the history, theory, and culture of architecture. One of the residential projects led by Traction was the “Bougainvillea House” in Sarasota, Florida. The 2,800-square-foot home, with a 500-square-foot studio, was completed in 2014. The firm designed the home’s openings in the front and rear facades to enable unobstructed views of the backyard, where a lap pool separates the home from the detached studio. Inside the main house, the double-height living area opens to a second-story den where a dramatic glass corner filters northern light into the home, and it contains a window seat with treetop views.\nInspired by the Art Moderne style, the deeply inset window is positioned at eye level to serve as an oculus to focus the view. Another project was the 3,000-square-foot “Seagrape House” in Anna Maria. Completed in 2013, the home has won numerous awards, including LEED Platinum Certification, an AIA Tampa Bay Design Award, an AIA Gulf Coast Design Award, and SRQ Magazine’s Home of the Year. The home’s livable spaces are carefully elevated on concrete columns to protect the home from storm surge and to allow the dune vegetation to meander below. A time capsule containing family mementos was cast into the concrete shear wall, reinforcing the notion of the house as a constant as time passes and children grow.

One of Twelfth Street Studio’s residential projects was the “Palma Ceia” Residence in Tampa. The firm worked with their client with renovations that encompassed significant changes to an existing traditional structure. Another project was the “Westshore Residence” in Tampa. This 8,000-square-foot, new-build residence used an open floor plan designed around a series of protected grand trees. The Bayfront Tower has stood in Downtown St. Petersburg since the 1970s. One of the first waterfront condos built in St. Pete, the Bayfront Tower is an indelible part of the local skyline, and it couldn’t just be knocked down. When it came to renovating the building for 2017, Wannemacher Jensen Architects led the rebuild and redesign of the tower’s interior and exterior renovation. Exterior renovations include a beautiful new paint job, replacing the aluminum screening, repainting the iconic navy blue, and adding new windows. The Twelfth Street Studio team combines extensive design knowledge and strong working relationships to create beautiful and lasting spaces in and around Tampa. One of these projects is a Hyde Park Historic District residence. Originally a 1908 Sears and Roebucks kit house, the traditional building was renovated to incorporate modern amenities. The project involved a number of additions and renovations, including the redesign of a guest house into an art studio overlooking the pool. The entry to the studio is a contemporary, flat-roofed glass box, which was formed by sheets of glass set into steel channels and an exposed concrete floor. The studio’s second room also has a glass facade, but its roofline reflects that of the main house.

C&P provided the interior design for the 1,500-square-foot restaurant Swine & Sons at 595 W Fairbanks Avenue in Winter Park. The restaurant offers Southern-style platters, traditional sides, barbecue sandwiches, charcuterie, and home-style desserts. The oaky wood design inside reflects the products available, including their charcuterie program, offering a selection of cured, dry aged, and smoked meats for dine-in guests. The space evokes a classic smokehouse decor, while integrating modern flourishes and welcoming lighting. C&P also provided design development and interior design work for the thoughts.com office in Orlando, Florida. The 4,000-square-foot office space includes a new hardwood floor, unique porthole windows that allowed a view into the newly-designed meetings rooms, and modern suspended overhanging sculptures that match the lime green, bright yellow, and blue color motif that carries over to the walls and desks.

Crespo is a graduate of the prestigious Savannah College of Art and Design and has made his professional home in the Palma Ceia neighborhood, just southwest of downtown Tampa. Crespo Design Group firm has done work nationwide and across Florida, including homes in Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Naples, and Miami. After thoroughly gutting the 7,100-square-foot original, Crespo Design Group introduced Sacred Pepper, and food critic Jon Claridge said that “North Tampa can now celebrate a superb upscale restaurant in Carrollwood.” Located at 15405 N. Dale Mabry Highway in Tampa, Sacred Pepper is an extremely well-rated restaurant, offering traditional and new American cuisine. Inside the restaurant, Cypress trees hang horizontally on the walls, with their leaves replaced by bright hanging light bulbs. A floor-to-ceiling backlit mirror in the dining room is etched with a handwritten recipe of the restaurant chef’s personal but not-so-secret marinara sauce. It includes two custom-made chandeliers from Portugal and integrates “Old Florida” uses of cypress and terrazzo. It features artwork curated along with CASS Contemporary Gallery owners Jake and Cassie Greatens, and includes artwork by Ian Ross, Dana Oldfather, Mark Joseph Oliver, and Casey Johnson.

Design Style Architecture recently did interior design work on an apartment located an island inlet of St. Petersburg, Florida, with remarkable views of the Atlantic Ocean. Major components like the kitchen, bathrooms, and master bedroom were remodeled by firm for both function and aesthetics. New tray ceilings, also known an inverted or recessed ceilings, were designed and created for both the kitchen and living areas. Cove lighting was created for both recessed ceiling spaces, which allowed Design Style Architecture to integrate a completely customizable lighting setup. The kitchen was expanded to include a new peninsula with room for bar seating, cooled wine storage, and hanging pendant lighting. A new seating area was installed under the kitchen window to better offer views of the gulf. The oversized guest bathroom received a furniture-style vanity, utilizing a color palette meant to evoke the soft beach hues nearby. The master bedroom used lap siding (meant to evoke wood) as the defining design element, and was painted an azure blue, to channel the blues of the ocean and the sky.

Located in North Hyde Park are the offices of Terri White Design. Terri White, ASID, has worked in the area as an interior decorator for over 25 years. She’s been named by Houzz as one of the best local interior decorators in 2015, 2016, and 2017. Her work has been featured in Tampa Bay Magazine “House Trends” in November 2005 and in March 2006. Titled the “Renovation on Bayshore,” Terri White Design transformed the outdated, baroque apartment out of the 1980s and into the modern age. Terri White Design refurbished the apartment on Bayshore Boulevard in East Tampa to better integrate the beautiful home’s view of Hillsborough Bay. TWD did work within the living room, the kitchen, master bathroom, master bedroom, and two other bathrooms. The living room, which was once overly darkened by old overhanging lights and heavily-stained wood, is now beautifully simplified with clean white walls and large glass windows that welcome in the Florida sunshine and Bayshore ocean views. They also introduced a new glass shower and large bath, with new wood flooring that continues throughout the entire apartment. What was once a gothic red bathroom is now finished with a clean, white style and large windows that make the room feel bigger, not smaller.

About Nicholas Carl Design

Nicholas Konzal started as an interior designer working out Milwaukee, but he’s come very far since then. Over the last decade, Mr. Konzal’s career has expanded nationwide, including doing design work in Chicago and now, St. Petersburg. He started his career by modernizing out-of-date Lake House and Oceanfront decor, before officially starting his design firm in 2008. He still is sits as a member of The Board of Design Review for the Breast Cancer Show House. Konzal has experience working in interior design, home staging, space planning, residential design, floor plans, and kitchen and bath design. In 2014, Nicholas Carl Design expanded and started working in St. Petersburg, focusing on historic renovation across Florida’s west coast. He’s been named one of Milwaukee’s Best Interior Designers, and many of his firm’s design projects have been featured in M Magazine.

A St. Petersburg beach was originally built by Henry Dupont on the intracoastal waters of the Gulf of Mexico, just outside Tampa Bay in 1926. A Spanish-architecture inspired home, Nicholas Carl Design was invited to remodel the building to preserve its historical architecture, while revitalizing it back with a unique style. Konzal’s firm worked to add 600 square feet of additional living space to the building and a 1,000-square-foot outdoor area to include a pool, a deck, and an outside kitchen. They added Chihuly prints bought from the Chihuly collection in St. Petersburg. The interior design included installing a dark wooden bed frame, as well as Pop Art that contrasted with a dark green and silver walls. In the 200-square-foot master bathroom, Nicholas Carl Design added an air jet bathtub, a walk-in rain shower, and a Spanish, custom-made vanity.
